三星首款曲面手机正式发布，它就是Galaxy Note Edge！三星Note Edge设计并不是采用全曲面屏幕，热是采用了右侧边曲面设计，非常具备视觉冲击，功能也有增强，三星Note Edge评测表现良好，好用吗？我的回答是很不错，另外Note Edge国内上市最快要在年底了。
2014年9月3日晚，三星召开新品发布会，发布了Note4等一系列新品。此次发布会主打的Note4本身没有很多靓点，金属边框其他厂商已经用了多年；2.5D屏幕是诺基亚很久很久以前的噱头，国内金立S5.5都用了，三星现在再跟风也太晚；水晶，皮革后盖有助于提升识别度，但是三星这个品牌档次要提升不是这些附加物能解决的。

如果只看Note4，就是要被几天后iPhone 6吊打的命运。不过三星当然不会坐以待，它还是拿出来一个颇有靓点的产品，Galaxy Note Edge。
一、曲面屏幕的技术基础
曲面屏幕这个东西，Galaxy Note Edge不是第一家，LG很早就发布过曲面屏幕的手机。这个东西的技术基础是Oled显示技术。现在大家用的屏幕主要包括的LCD和Oled，LCD是一块平面玻璃，而Oled是柔性的，可以用玻璃把它夹成平面，也可以把它做成曲面，甚至覆盖到不规则的表面。
三星作为业界Oled技术领先的厂商之一，做出曲面屏幕有技术基础，而苹果要做的话，想大规模量产很难找到三星以外的供应商，三星有独家优势。
二、侧边屏幕的用途
从技术上来说，侧边屏幕等于第二块屏幕和触摸屏幕。可以变换出各种用途。三星展示了侧边栏、相机控制、尺子、手电、秒表、状态栏、来电提醒等应用。未来还将提供专用皮套，可以不开启主屏幕完成一些应用。
从三星给出的内容看，这个侧边屏幕的功能还是很丰富的。但问题是用户完成这些功能真的需要一个侧边屏幕？
侧边栏、相机控制、秒表、状态栏直接做在主屏幕上丝毫不影响用户体验，为什么要画蛇添足的放到侧边栏？
尺子侧边栏的确要比主屏幕方便，但是用智能手机当尺子的机会有多少？唯一实用的用途是配合专用皮套的来电提醒，这样可以不用主屏幕开启就完成简单应用，大幅度降低待机功耗。但是对三星来说以前的开孔皮套也能做到。
总体来说，三星的这个侧边屏幕是为了概念技术而找应用。为了卖点，我找自己的技术优势，根据技术优势设计产品，根据产品寻找用户需求。至于这个用户需求是否能真正带来体验的提升并不重要，重要的是宣传卖点。
三星其实一直有这个问题，当年的眼球控制屏幕滚动后来产品做出来根本没有几个人用。
三、三星的无奈和挣扎
过去几年，iPhone不做大屏幕，三星靠品牌和技术优势，在高端市场风生水起。到了2013年三季度之后，随着供应链的成熟，中国手机在技术上、体验上追赶上三星。靠性价比优势打击三星的市场。三星的销量和盈利都受到影响。
2014年3季度，大屏幕的iPhone 6发布在即，价格相近的三星将面临重大的挑战。一旦高端被苹果痛打，低端再被中国大陆厂商抄底。三星将面临前几年诺基亚的窘境。
在这个背景下，三星各方出击，试图找到出路，Galaxy Note Edge就是一个尝试方向。从市场来看，有一定号召力的品牌做出特立独行的东西，还是会有一定销量的，譬如当年索尼的透明屏幕手机。但是，想要靠这种奇兵去扭转战略被动，从手机历史上看基本不太可能。
如果高端对战苹果失利，三星只能降低利润和中国大陆厂商拼价格，靠品牌优势血洗低端。产品同质化后，品牌的作用更加重要，诺基亚直到被收购前，其数字键盘功能机一直在盈利，吊打华为、中兴、三星和各种山寨的同类手机。三星未来很可能也要走这条路。
放下身段赚辛苦钱，三星利润率会降低但是巨头地位不会变。放不下身段，想用奇巧淫技去逆转，诺基亚就是前车之鉴。
